From wholesale dealers to Industry Leaders
1932
Globe’s story begins in 1932 with Jack Weinstein founding Globe Electric on Montreal’s historic St-Laurent boulevard as a small wholesaler and distributor of electrical accessories. It’s Jack’s entrepreneurial spirit and drive that live on through Globe and continue to fuel the company today.
1946
At the young age of 18, Jack’s son, Sonny, joins his father’s company. Together they build and grow relationships with local businesses.
1962
With the passing of his father Jack, Sonny, takes over the family business, working hard to grow Globe as a small wholesale business, selling to local contractors and businesses.
1976
Edward Weinstein joins his father Sonny in the business. He’s the first of Sonny’s sons to enter the business and is soon joined by brothers Gerry and Jack three years later. Times were hard for both the family and the business. The Weinstein’s understood that it was time for change, and that risks had to be taken to save the company.
1983
With the launch of its card packaged electrical products, Globe as a brand is born. These first Globe branded products, called ‘Globe Pak’, are sold across the province of Quebec, introducing to the market what will eventually become a huge assortment of Globe branded items.
1986
Globe attends the Canadian National Hardware show for the first time and a huge step forward is made: The Globe brand is launched nationally. Major Canadian retailers rapidly become an essential part of Globe’s customer base, completing the company’s transformation from local distributor to industry-leader nationwide.
1987
After over 50 successful years, it’s time for a bigger space! Globe moves to its current location in Pointe-Claire, making it easier to support the growing staff and better fulfill its customer’s needs.
1988
The first long-life light bulbs are created by Globe, lasting up to 10,000 hours! This far exceeds the 2,000 hours industry standard of the time. Globe was bringing consumers a superior product at the same price and causing major disruption to the competitive landscape.
1990
Sonny Weinstein passes away. His illustrious legacy is carried forward by his son Eddie, who takes the helm as CEO. With the success and growing recognition of its brand, the company decides to eliminate all distribution lines and go ‘all-in’ on Globe-branded products. The first lighting products are introduced during this time.
1995
Globe expands to Hong Kong and opens a wholly owned subsidiary Keystore International Inc. and Eddie’s brother Kenny Weinstein moves to Hong Kong. This significant move allows Globe to be closer to the manufacturing base.
1998
Globe launches its line of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). These energy efficient products enable families to save hundreds of dollars in electrical costs. Globe wins an exclusive contract to supply Central America with 3 million energy saving CFL bulbs, helping to solve their huge energy consumption problem.
2001
Globe enters the American market and Globe Electric Company (U.S.A.) Inc. is born. Sales offices are opened in Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago, as well as warehouses in Pennsylvania and California to service Globe’s expanding U.S. customer base. A major contract is signed with CVS to supply bulbs and electrical products in 8,000 stores.
2004
Recognizing the need to compete internationally, Globe rebrands as the Creative Energy Company®, while continuing to supply retailer partners with innovative packaging, merchandising and product solutions.
2005
By this time, nearly $90 billion dollars were spent by consumers shopping digitally in the United States alone. Globe recognizes this massive opportunity and enters the e-commerce business with Amazon as its first customer. This e-customer base would later expand to include some of today’s largest digital retailers.
2006
Globe’s global HQ expands to add creative workspaces as well as a 7,500 sq. ft. showroom to display its strengths in product development and merchandising. “The Innovation Center” is born as Globe’s creative business hub, innovating in all directions to further cement the company’s reputation for cutting-edge consumer products and merchandising solutions.

Globe opens a new office in Shenzhen, China and celebrates 75 years as a company. In addition to this milestone, Globe received the 2007 Canadian ENERGY STAR® Recruit of the Year award.

Fueled by creativity and innovation, Globe expands its product development division as the company positions itself as a best-in-class provider of innovative Lighting and Electrical products. Globe continues to receive industry and market recognition.
2014
Globe develops its first connected product: a Bluetooth smart plug. Though the project was eventually abandoned after careful evaluation, it would foreshadow Globe’s full-throttle entry into the category of connected devices and the Internet of Things (IoT).
